I grew up in Minnesota and now live in Los Angeles, California.  I’ve always been fascinated with how things work and how they’re made.  I owe my love of cooking to my mother who my friends referred to as Mrs. Brady.  She was also known as the slip cover queen and continues to amaze (and frighten) us all with the creations that come out of her “sewing room”.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend in the neighborhood whose dad had the ultimate workshop and the missing fingers to prove it.  It was there (as well as with my father) that I learned the basics of woodworking, welding, restoring classic boats, classic cars and motorcycles while keeping my digits intact.

We are all products of our upbringing.  I’m thankful that in public school I was exposed to classes in auto shop, drafting, architecture, woodworking, sheet metal shop and the like.

I wish these programs  were still available to kids today.  I feel it does contribute to the whole.
